Thanks Pamela, your candid reflection on the challenges of productivity and the pursuit of personal goals amidst daily distractions is both relatable and inspiring. Your honesty about the struggle to maintain focus and prioritise tasks resonates deeply, a gentle reminder that it's okay to be imperfect and that each moment offers an opportunity for renewal and mindfulness.
Hi Pamela! This post really resonates, so thank you for writing it! As a dad of two toddlers, any hours I find between childcare and my full-time career are so precious and charged with possibility that I just feel awful when I don’t use them the “right” way. Like you, I’m always trying to grow and improve, but the darker side of that is how easy it is to feel guilty for not, well, being perfect all the time. I’m working on getting better at giving myself grace, which I suppose should be part of any self-improvement plan. Thank you again for this lovely post!
I'm so happy that my post resonated with you Jacob. Thank you for reading & taking the time to comment. As a busy grandmother who cares for her two granddaughters under the age of 4, I can certainly relate to trying to "get it right all the time" and in fact, "doing it perfectly." I have the added self imposed pressure of thinking that "I've lived long enough that I should know how to do things a little easier & faster ." Take it from me, age and experience doesn't always pay off. We all, no matter what age or levels of stress need to give ourselves a little grace, especially when we're doing the best we can, or at least striving to do that more often than not. One moment and breath at a time. Enjoy your weekend. I wish you a restful one.
Pam, loved reading your article. I waist I could write as good as you. Keep on writing and express all your wise ideas and great points you bring up in your every week journal. Love it. Best of luck to you.
I think the number one distraction I have is having to do what I must to survive. The day job takes up the majority of my time like it does for most. We forget that we need many different kinds of rest, not just being idle. I can't speak for everyone but I know that I get wrapped up in "distractions" simply because I have to spend too much time doing one thing and my mind wants a break, so naturally it does what is easiest and most accessible given the 1 hour that I have to myself. We have to spend a lot of our time doing menial tasks, and then beat ourselves up when we don't have the physical, mental or emotional energy for what we actually want to be doing. Thank you for taking the time to remind us this with this post.
Thank you so much for reading & for your insightful comments @KerryJane! I totally agree that we all need different kinds of rest and to switch up the routine of mundane tasks. I also believe we all need to give ourselves some grace around trying to fill every free moment with meaningful, productive time, that is too tall of an order. What's most important is just being aware of the present moment and enjoying whatever it is you're doing, even if it's just being idle and breathing. The productivity will come later with a clear mind. Wishing you a memorable & restful weekend!
